As of January 18 of 2010, nearly every phone with a QWERTY keyboard in Verizon's lineup will now come with a required data plan.  For those that don't like it and would simply like a phone that could text better than a rotary phone, that's simply too bad.

To say it another way, "From each according to his ability to pay for the 9.99 data plan, to each according to his needs for our data plan."  Just like Karl Marx and the Communists that came later to fulfill these plans, one central body decides just what "each" needs.  In this case, the ruling body has decided that everyone needs a 25 Megabyte data plan and as such have the ability to pay for this plan.

It's fitting that one of Verizon's most popular phones that did not require a data plan that now does is called the "Env3".  In the Russian communist Revolution of 1917, class envy was a major contributor to the rise of Communism.  We believe that this phone's name, as well as the fact that is is available in red, point toward Verizon's political leanings.  We believe that this could also be where they are getting their current pricing strategy of few choices in service.
